Feel Like you are in an Information Traffic Jam Lately?

I am Colleen Kulikowski and I am a Type E.  I can start many posts in a single bound!  And sometimes it seems the ideas just flow faster than I can process them.  Right now there are a dozen half written posts and a list of another 100+ ideas just waiting to be written.  I find inspiration in everything I come across.

Ever feel that way?

Your brain can only hold so much information and you start thinking about something and then you have an idea it takes you in a totally different direction. Today was a perfect example of the traffice jam in my brain!

First I wrote about Tourist Attractions in the Greater Orlando Area, which then inspired me to write about the bedroom community in Polk County of Davenport.  As I compiled the post about Davenport, I had Good Morning America in on the Tv and a segment came on about Freakonomics.  In it the discussion about the herd mentality.  Bing another idea to write about!  I suddenly am too busy to answer phone calls from Neal Bloom and Margaret Rome.   Neal -- The Buffalo Sabres are going to win tonight -- I look forward to watching the NY Rangers lose!  Margaret -- rest assured I am an E in balance, I just ate, got good night's sleep and I might exercise tonight!

Yikes another post to write!  But I have a Blog started, where to start this next post?  I had been using Google Docs, but I have been having all sorts of strange things happening with such documents lately!  In desperation I want to start writing, I open up Outlook email message and drop it in there to not lose the train of though...  Cut and paste it into Active Rain all is well with the world!   Never thought about that before, definately going to have to use this as another place to compose posts...

But my brain didn't just stop there, I needed to update a links spreadsheet that our team uses when we blog to easily link back to our posts in future posts.   I then wrote an email message that shows a brief summary of our posts on http://celebrationfloridahomes.blogspot.com/, http://marcoislandhomes.blogspot.com/ to email to our distribution list.  Since 7am this morning I placed 25 ideas on my idea list of things I want to write about, made 30 follow up phone call and had a 2 hour conference call.  It is almost 4:30, I think it is time to eat but I have three things that I want to accomplish before I do so.

So do you ever feel like you are on Information Overload and how do you handle it?  Me, I have to go read now, and update the post I did for the Fruit Challenge, which most likely will give me an idea or two to add to the other 25 ideas I added today!

Colleen,

Perhaps we could have an auction and bid on just a portion of your ideas :)

Colleen,

I used to feel like that, until I read this post. Now I am feeling like I haven't accomplished much at all. Is this type E?  At least you finish the things you start, otherwise you would be ADHD:)

I wish I had time to write more blogs. It is so fun and I've learned a ton. One thing I do worry about though, spending so much time on blogging or commenting that I allow it to consume me. Do you ever feel that way? Hopefully soon I will find a good balance.
Posted by Keith Pate (Coldwell Banker / HPW) over 2 years ago

Colleen,

Come on here.

you have soooooooooooooooooooooooo many ideas in that little head that I can picture smoke rising from it.

You always have excellent ideas.

I think I do too..I'm just not sure others agree with mine all the time!

Great post!

Now that I buttered you up......

Go Rangers...Sabres are dead!

I hit information overload this afternoon and went into shut-down mode.   After about 20 minutes figured I should get out for a run to feel better, got into my running gear and walked out the door as it started to rain...
Posted by Dan Cummings - Connecticut's Running Realtor (Raveis Real Estate) over 2 years ago

Fran -- The bidding will start at $2 for this really cool idea...

Karen -- there are so many started and not finished....  but that is very type e -- putting the ideas together and being too distracted to completed them!

Keith -- Balance you will find!  I promise it is possible!

Neal -- It is so cute of you supporting the Rangers even though they are going to go down!

Dan -- I know how you feel!   Now I am off to go for a walk!

The wonderful thing about Colleen and most Type E personalities;  giving and sharing is there  just for the asking. If we can find what another needs, we will try our darn-est to meet and solve those needs. Sometime we do so much for others that we over look ourselves. Be careful Type E's ,take care of yourself... Eat right, get enough rest and exercise.   A type E in balance is a marvelous way to live. So glad for all who have discovered this personality type. Would really like to see more of us sharing our stories and how we deal with day to day challenges.

Thank you Colleen for writing and posting it in the Type E Personality Group. I will give you a gold star here and in the group!                                                                                                                     gold star

Do they make a Water proof memo pad? While showering this morning after the yard work I suddenly had like 10 ideas hit my head at the same time. I don't know if it was the herbal shampoo my wife had bought or the original thought that hit me like a freight train spawning all the Idea-ettes.

Colleen - I am totally with you and what information OVERLOAD!!  My brain is about to fry and I deal with it in one of 2 ways - either I make myself an espresso and just CRUISE at warp speed or just take a deep breath do a couple of things and get aways from the computer.

Herb, The closest I have come to dealing with "idea overload"..is to use Jott www.jott.com   Today while on my morning walk I was"jotting" ideas. Have about 15 messages to read in my email so those ideas are not lost. Now if you could get a water proof phone, guess you could "jott" in the shower.

Everyone -- thanks!   I had this great post all written because Neal Bloom and I had a wager...  The Buffalo Sabres just won, so I can't use it...  So I am including part of it here as an idea for someone else to  write about...   So how about writing about things in your past?  For instance...

I grew up in Buffalo New York and as a teenager I was addicted to hockey thanks to my friend Jule Jeffords.  We used to go to games with her Dad and he would just roll his eyes over these two teenagers obsessed with hockey!  My love of writing started with Julie and I putting together scrapbooks on the Sabres.  Gosh where was blogging then?   Now the Sabres have a BLOG!

Sorry Neal, your guys failed you!   Look forward to your post!

Colleen... First off..... my other half sucked me into Hockey... A HUGE ranger fan he is... and he's on the couch an unhappy camper right now... Aside from that... are you in my brain? I can totally relate to your post... I always have 101 ideas running in and out of my brain... I make notes to myself all day long and try as I do.. I never reach the end of my to-do list. I think for me... I will take Adult A.D.D. as my cop out ... I don't see it ever changing as much as I try.... Thanks for the post...... and Go Rangers!!!

Colleen I get tired just reading your post - I guess it is "vicarious overload"!!

Please fill me in - what is a "Type E"?? (Sorry if this is a redundant question.)

Enjoy your hockey game. We're in Sharks Territory out in Silicon Valley. The fans take it very, very seriously. There's even one police car with a fin on the roof (seriously).

Hi Colleen, I've only been on for a little over a week now and I call it information overload!  That's why I wrote it out on paper as to what I will post for the next coming weeks. What started as 4 weeks, now about 4 months!  Keep it up!  Wine works for me!  :)~
Posted by Stephanie Edwards-Musa, Realtor ® Spring/Woodlands, TX Real Estate (Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors ®) over 2 years ago

Laurie -- thanks for the star!   Just had to have some fun...   Desiree -- GO BUFFALO!!!   You might want to send sympathy to Neal Bloom...

Click on the type E in the post link, and it will take you to all the posts that will explain it all to you!

Stephanie -- Yes a glass of wine definately helps!

Posted by Licensed Real Estate Salesperson WNY Real Estate (WNY Star Realty) over 2 years ago
Colleen, ah yes...definitely E-type. The energizer bunny is on overload...take care after you do all those things that are so important, first. Isn't it great to have thoughts continually driving the car? Who else is going to do it, right?

Great post, Colleen. It always feels to me that there is not enough time to do what I want to do. The list keeps growing. I find that I have to plan some personal time at the gym so I get a break, as well as time with my wife. Blogging sometimes feels like it is consuming, along with everything else, although I enjoy the heck out of it. Each post seems to generate more ideas. I keep a file folder that is getting fatter and fatter with ideas. I have done some "jotting" like others as a way to keep the list growing and to remind myself of things to do when I am on the run. BTW wine is good! Jeff PS - the pic looks like the border crossing here in San Diego heading south the Mexico.

I feel this way most of the time... my mistake is I do not write my ideas down and then forget them in my old age.
Posted by Central Oregon Real Estate | Broker Thesa Chambers, Licensed in Oregon (RE/MAX Sunset Realty) over 2 years ago

Gena -- sometimes I wish I could turn off my brain...   Other times, I think it is fine.

Ana -- at the end of the day the list is longer than I started, not always a good thing!

Jeff -- thanks for the suggestion...

Thesa -- That is why I keep a notebook with a list of things I am thinking about!

Hi Colleen - LOVE the email idea!!! I'll give that a try...... I do end up with too much going on in my mind and then I jot none of them down. But this email idea might just be the quick solution to that. Thanks! I like that spreadsheet idea, too. Hmm, wonder how you do that?? Ann

I am always on overload it seems. I have just gotten used to it. I take a pen and notebook everywhere with me. If I need to remember something, it gets written down. If I have a great idea for a post or a song, it gets written down. I need to take a mini tape recorder around so I don't have to write so much.

I feel like I'm in the weeds sometimes and I can read it later in my posts that don't come out the way I wanted them to... One of the most tech savvy computer guys I've ever met (built digital broadcast centers for the military and CIA) told me once that he's never seen someone maximize Windows and use it the way I do... meaning the RIGHT WAY... It is called WINDOWS not WINDOW But at the same time, the Type E's like us out there can sometimes get a little too far out there with 20-25 windows open. I find myself losing track from this sometimes... so just yank out 500Mb of memory and when your computer WON'T do it anymore then you'll stay on track better hahaha (my next computer will have 4x the memory of this one!...I've already picked it out)
Posted by Boca Raton & Lake Worth Florida Real Estate Broker over 2 years ago

Chris -- I try...

Ann -- check your email there is a little present for you

Christy -- it is always fun I have a note that said green beans -- million $ listing -- kermit -- for the life of me I have no idea what I was trying to tell myself.  the only thing I have is it must have something to do with green.   Notes are only as good as you are able to figure out what they mean!

David -- and that probably won't have enough memory either!

Hi Colleen,

Not much of a sports fanatic but as you already know, I totally relate to the Information Overload issue.  I was almost reluctant to comment on this post because I know that it will give you one more thing to do.  But it's a wonderful thing this information overload - it keeps us young!  Go Active Rain!

Colleen-Oh, how this happens too often! The past few weeks I have overpromised and overextended myself, fortunately I got 99% accomplished but my head was spinning and just landed! When I blog I call it Blog Fog, too many ideas and can't put them on paper, when it happens in the work part of my life, I call it ADD, the attention span of a marble and when it happens at home I just say the heck with it and kick my feet up and relax. I call that taking a break! Maybe you my overworked friend just needs to take a little break! Love the post and can relate!

I've noticed recently that I feel the most anxious and have my mind running on over-drive the most, once a month, for a good week or so.  The rest of the month I do get a lot done, always have more to do and more intests than I have time for, but that anxiety, for me anyway, seems to be hormonal.  I feel totally out of balance during that time.  The rest of the time I think I might have ADD, half finished projects all over the house - before I finish anything, I'm planning out and starting the next project.  Sigh.  I really need to go back and complete some of these things.  How does an E stay in balance?

Colleen,

I just met Margaret Rome Saturday and learned I am a TypeE.  Now I understand why I am constantly seeking new information and juggling many things in my life.  Now I know there is a community of people who understand this and Active Rain is here as a huge connector for us.  Glad to "meet" you.
