What does your neighbors in NJ know about Southwest Florida that you don't know?  It is about this time of year that I find that the number of NJ License plates starts to increase.  Perhaps I am sensitive, I moved from Summit, NJ in October 2001 and have never regretted a moment of it.  I constantly run into others from NJ and in fact my entire office of 5 is from New Jersey.  So what draws us here?  Well it is simple, this is paradise and we are drawn to it.  We are below the frost line so there is no threat of snow.  There is plenty to do with Golf, Tennis, Boating, Fishing and the Beach.  There is culture and it is a quick flight from Newark to Ft. Myers airport.

Bridge to Paradise...  These photos were taken by the Yacht Club facing the bridge as it leave the Island.

I have had several conversations recently with people about Marco Island and I am often found saying "once you cross that bridge you will fall in love" and I have been asked about the Bridge....   So I thought I would share with you the Judge S. S. Jolley Bridge pictured in so many photographs of Marco Island the focus of this BLOG. 

The Bridge made national news this summer with the Cuban Refugees and their landing at the base of the bridge.  The bridge was built in 1969 and has one lane of traffice going in each direction.

What I get asked the most "Who Was Judge S. S. Jolley?", so here are some facts that I was able to find about Judge S. S. Jolley:

• The Bridge was named for Seward Stokley Jolley who was a Collier County judge for twenty years.
• Her Served the county from 1935-1959 and the State Legislature honored him in December 1991.
• He is one of the few, if not the only judge to serve the county without a law degree.
• He worked tirelessly to render services of all kinds to his community.
• His dauther June Jolley Dyches, married Tommie Barfield's grandson, Jim Dychess.
